Is it a unique product that will benefit your buyer? Do you offer excellent customer service so that customers will only go to you for your products/services? These are all important questions to answer for the sake of the success of your business.
2. Product knowledge
Your product knowledge is essential. Contact the manufacturers or your local distributors and become aware. Find out how long the products have been on the market? Are the products competitively priced? What do the manufacturers’ warranties cover? Can you get a discount for your order in large quantities? Always keep up to date with changes and improvements.
3. The competition
Competition is a fact of life. If your business can’t compete then don’t start this business. Locate those you consider the largest threat to your business and research how they acquire their customers? What attracted the customers to their products? What could you offer that they could not? Were they willing to reduce an advertised price? How is their order page designed? Are there testimonials to their products? A great way to find out is to order something from their site and check out their customer service. Is there something you can improve on? The goal is to always keep track on your competitors so that you know what to do and not do.
4. Determine your strengths & weaknesses
Find out your market potential to determine the strengths and weaknesses of your own business. The value of information and resourceful tools available out there to aid you in your research both online and offline is important. The chamber of commerce, yellow pages, trade shows, seminars and of course the Internet are great starting points. The benefits of using the Internet are endless for your business endeavors. Nothing beats navigating the computer and/or smartphone to gain valuable insight into these points.
Subscribe to newsletters, forum groups, social media networks aimed at your area of interest. Information from all government agencies is also readily available at your fingertips. You just need to do the work and hopefully, your home based business will have the potential to succeed.
