To avoid distractions when working from home, you need to create a sacred work space by which your family learns to respect your physical work boundaries.

Many work at home entrepreneurs are creating schedule breaks for both business and family. The following will assist you in maintaining the boundaries necessary for both work and family satisfaction:

Assess Interruptions Right Away: By accessing family interruptions, you can make the right choices by reducing them later on. Having breakfast, lunches, etc. prepared ahead of time will allocate the extra time for other important matters.

Establish Boundaries: Your office hours should be set up as you would a traditional environment. Make it clear what constitutes as an important interruption, such as the house is on fire.

Get Organized: Everyone at home should have their own organizational system of finding things without you having to intervene. Keeping your files and papers organized can help a great deal in keeping your sanity and energy intact.

Create Routines: A routine is essential for scheduling purposes and will help by eliminating unnecessary distractions. For instance, you may want to get your home chores done on weekends so that you don’t have to worry about the major stuff during the week days. Self-discipline can be tough but it can be accomplished. Just remember the reasons why you wanted to go into business for yourself.

Whenever you feel like it’s too much, take a break. Go outside for a walk. Breathe in some fresh air. Look away from your computer and stretch. It is truly amazing what these little tactics can do for your concentration and sanity.
