How to Get Rid of Time Distractions for Business Success
Do you wake up every day with good intentions of getting a lot of work done, only to find that you’re disgusted with yourself by the end of the day when you realize how much time you wasted?
Distractions are everywhere when you’re a work at home entrepreneur. You have to learn how to manage them and take control or you’ll never find yourself making progress.
Common distractions that marketers complain about when it comes to work time include family interruptions, well-meaning friends, household chores, parenting duties, health woes, and even entertainment like social networking or Netflix.
Cut out distractions
Some entrepreneurs find it easy to cut out distractions that are keeping them from accomplishing their goals. For instance, all they have to do is turn one room in their homes into an office – where they’ll sit each day working on their niche business. But it’s not always so easy for others.
Even in a separate room turned into an office, kids will still come in or knock on the door, friends will call wanting to chat because you’re home, and Facebook and Netflix are just a click away.
Bite sized chunks
However, one way you might be able to make progress with work is to divvy your tasks up into bite sized chunks. Work on a little at a time, giving yourself a break for other things in between.
Nevertheless, instead of working one hour straight, you might spend 30 minutes writing, 10 minutes setting something up technically, and then give yourself a 10-20 minute break to relax and flit around on social media or watch a scene of your favorite show.
Shake things up
Even boredom can set in as a formidable distraction if you’re not careful. Your mind can wander, causing you to daydream and ignore the important tasks at hand. When that happens, shake things up and work on a different niche or project for awhile – just enough time to give you a break from your original task.
Shorten your work day
Furthermore, some marketers have found that shortening their work day actually forced them to get far more done. If you try working 8 hours a day, you might find yourself struggling to continually be on the task that entire time.
As a result, if you have 3 hours in the day to achieve everything you want, maybe even spread out over the course of the day, you could be capable of focusing a lot more because you’ve allowed yourself to have ample downtime to unwind and refresh your mental abilities.
