Monday eBay Tip ~ Attract more bids by using audio and video in your auctions
Just think how many more high bids you would receive on your auctions if you could show prospective bidders your items for sale in person. You would prove beyond doubt that they are in good condition and in full working order!
The good news is that, while you still can’t meet your bidders, you can talk to them directly and show them your products, how they work, and what condition they’re in through the use of multimedia in your auctions.
By multimedia, we mean audio and video that is streamed into your auctions (“Streaming” means the audio and video are hosted on another web site and “fed” through to your auction visitors when they click on a link). Through this strategy, you can…
* Build your credibility by providing a personal video or audio message.
* Show your item in action — proving it works and so allaying any fears prospective bidders might have about buying something that doesn’t work.
* Display your item from every angle through a video presentation without the need for tons of photos (although it’s a good idea to use photos as well).
* Demonstrate various uses for your item by using video.
* Show prospective bidders how you pack your items securely with a video presentation.
In addition to these benefits, many people find it easier to take information in through listening to it or watching it, rather than just reading it. Adding audio and video to your auctions can dramatically increase interest in them. It can highlight the most important information that you want to get across to prospective bidders.
How to use audio and video in your auctions
Just think of the possibilities for your own auctions! Here are just a few examples:
* If you sell consumer electronics like DVD players, you can video yourself setting up the machine, inserting a DVD, and playing it — proving that the machine is in good working order.
* You can video yourself packing one of your items, demonstrating how much care you take in making sure they are packed securely.
* If you sell clothing, you can video your items for sale, clearly showing certain details and bringing them to life.
* You can use a simple audio or video message from yourself to make your auctions much more personal — something that can make bidders trust you and have confidence that you will deliver what you promise.
How to create multimedia presentations for your auctions
When it comes to actually creating your audio and video presentations, all you need is an inexpensive webcam and microphone. Then a number of services are available online that will host your recordings, provide you with links you can place in your eBay auctions, and then stream the video or audio whenever one of your visitors clicks on the link.
These include:
* Auction Video (www.AuctionVideo.com): A service that allows you to record your video presentations through their web site for a monthly fee starting at $9.95.
* i2iAuction Videos (www.i2iauction.com): A service that allows a short video to be streamed from their site into your auction page on a per-auction basis (from $1.99 per video).
* SellersVoice (www.SellersVoice.com): For $29.95 a month, this site will allow you to record and stream unlimited audio recordings into your auctions.
* VideoSnap (http://videosnap.logitech.com): For $0.99 a video you can add a video to your eBay auctions through this service.
You should always monitor your visitors’ and bidders’ response any time you try implementing audio or video in your auction listings. Adding multimedia to your auctions — when done well — can drive up the perceived value of your item and let bidders feel confident buying from you.
If done wrong, however, it can irritate your visitors and drive them away from your auctions — and actually hurt your sales!
So make sure you watch your conversion rates carefully, and make sure your audio and video additions are making your auctions more profitable!
