Monitor Your Competition to Stay One Step Ahead of The Rest!
The thing to remember about the eBay marketplace is that it’s virtually impossible to keep a good idea to yourself!
If you find a great item to sell and it sells very well, then you can guarantee that someone else will soon start selling it. If you start using a certain strategy and it works, then it won’t be long before other sellers start using it too.
Likewise, you can use strategies you see other sellers using to good effect. So it’s essential that you monitor your competition carefully — not only to “steal” any good ideas they come up with, but also so you can take advantage of any other slip-ups!
There are several ways to do this effectively:
- Sign up for any newsletters that your competition offer — for example, their eBay store newsletter if they have one — to see how they communicate with their customers and what special discounts or promotions they run.
- Add all your competitors to your Favorite Sellers list to monitor their new auctions and to see the Top Picks they send out.
- Regularly check your competitors’ feedback to see what their customers like and dislike about their service and products.
- Regularly check your competitors’ auctions to see what type of auctions they run, how they price their items, and how they sell their items.
- Regularly check the Completed Listings of your competitors to see how well their items sell and for how much.
- Regularly search for your items using eBay Search to see if any new competitors have arrived on the scene.
- Regularly buy something from your competitors to see how fast they ship and pack their items, what their customer service is like, and how their products compare with yours.
But what should you do with the information you gather from this research?
