The biggest mistake I find that newbies make, is they think that by putting up a website/blog their work is done. Contrary to that popular belief, newbies should learn how to effectively implement Internet marketing strategies to gain the right momentum for their online business.

Internet marketing in a nutshell is any related marketing activities that involve the Internet. For instance, if you have a product/service you market it over the Internet, right? However, if you want your website product/service to get noticed, knowing the proper Internet marketing techniques is key. There are several ways to market via the internet such as e-mail marketing, online marketing via websites, blogs and networking sites.

Internet marketing also involves SEO marketing (search engine optimization) to help gain visitors. A good solid marketing plan is essential to achieve this and more. By targeting the right mixture of direct and indirect audiences you gain a perspective of who your contacts are.

For a newbie, this may sound like a lot to learn but once you gain the knowledge, it will become second nature. The key thing is to offer a product/service that is in demand and unique. Offer a great sales pitch and publish quality content on your sites/blogs for your visitors to learn and buy from you.

Build trust, establish a newsletter and gain visitors email addresses by providing an opt-in sign up form on your sites. Write your own eBook and give it out for FREE in return for their opt in email addresses.

Look into banner advertising and sponsorship advertising for additional Internet marketing strategies. Don’t stop there, consider advertising on print materials such as business cards, letterhead, brochures and fliers.

Search engine advertising is also part of the Internet marketing mix. Pay per click examples include Yahoo! search marketing, Google AdWords, and MSN adCenter.

Another newbie mistake is they don’t take their online business seriously. If you want to succeed in Internet marketing then you need to treat your business with respect so that others can respect it back. Always nourish and implement it with new ideas. Be unique and most importantly have fun and watch your online business grow into your ideal vision.
